There are always these certain things you expect to hear when it comes to hearing bands from New York or Manchester or even Montreal... or Turku. The Friend is one of the most important Turku bands out there these days. Maybe the most important. These boys really seem to know what they want to do: tight and dancable indie-pop songs that simply make the crowd dance 'til exhaustion.

The FriendThis night was the first time I actually heard this band called The Ran. All I knew was that they were a band with members from Turkey, Russia and Finland. And that my dear collague Teppo had just joined them for guitar duties. I have to say I was nothing but positively surprised when they started to play. Once again the crowd had no chance to sit. No no. Dope, catchy pop songs, an excellent singer (reminded me a bit of Brandon Flowers) and a performance full of energy! Simply a really good show.
